In the company of the iconic World War II era B-25 Mitchell Bomber, the DAV Flight Team will appear at the Wings Over HoustonAirshow. The airshow is one stop on a nationwide tour that aims to increase public awareness of disabled veterans and provide information about DAV programs and benefits. The B-25, which gained notoriety in the famed Doolittle Raid over Tokyo, Japan 71 years ago, shares a modern-day mission with DAV -- reminding people of the sacrifices veterans make for freedom. As brave men and women return from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan, the DAV’s services and advocacy are as relevant today as at any time in the nation’s history.

The DAV B-25 Doolittle Raider Special Delivery will be on static display at this year's 2013 Fort Worth Alliance Air Show Presented by Bell Helicopter! The North American B-25 was the most famous twin-engine medium bomber used during World War II. The B-25 achieved worldwide fame on April 18, 1942 when 16 B-25s, under the command of Lt. Col James Doolittle, launched from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet and attacked Tokyo in a daring raid.

DAV Flight Team headed to Chennault International Airshow

Disabled American Veterans is dedicated to one single purpose: Building better lives for America’s Disabled Veterans. September 28^th-29th, in the company of the vintage B-25 Mitchell Bomber, DAV bring its message of support of veterans to the 2013 Chennault International Airshow In Lake Charles, LA. In its modern-day mission with DAV, the B-25 serves as a reminder of the sacrifices veterans make for freedom. Meet the DAV Flight Team with the B-25 at the 2013 Chennault International Airshow in Lake Charles, LA.

We are in full swing at AirVenture 2013 in Oshkosh, Wi.  We have had great weather, great flying and great visitors to our display.   If you are in the area we invite you to stop by and say hello.  If you are a veteran we ask that you sign our poster that we donate to the show and talk to some of our local Chapter 17 DAV volunteers.   Some of our special activities throughout the week include a Warbird Volunteer picnic on Thursday evening and a day full of activities on Friday in a special Salute to Veterans day which is capped off with the LT. Dan Band performance at 7:30PM in Phillips 66 Plaza.

EAA AirVenture Welcomes back Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, WIS- Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band will return to EAA AirVenture in 2013 as the grand finale of a daylong salute to veterans at Oshkosh, Wis., on Friday, August 2.  Performing for the fourth time at EAA AirVenture since 2008, the popular band will be hosted at by the Disabled American Veterans and the EAA Warbirds of America stage at the Philips 66 Plaza stage.

Sinise, best known for his role as Vietnam veterans Lt. Dan Taylor in the classic film “Forrest Gump,” and as star of hit TV series CSI: New York, plays bass in The Lt. Dan Band and is a well-known supporter of veterans as well as active-duty military.

The concert will be the highlight of the veteran-focused day on August 2 at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2013.  Further details regarding the day’s other events will be announced as they are finalized.

“Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band have been hugely popular at Oshkosh every year they’ve been here, so it’s great that they’ll be back in 2013,” said Jim DiMatteo, EAA’s vice president of AirVenture features and attractions. “The music and show by Gary and the band are always outstanding, but we all know that we’re doing this to honor all the veterans and active duty personnel who are here at AirVenture.”

The Lt. Dan Band covers everything from Bruce Springsteen to Beyonce,  Zac Brown Band to Jimmy Hendrix.   Following the band’s first hit concert in front of thousands at EAA’s Theater in the Woods in 2008, the EAA Warbirds of America and Disabled American Veterans teamed up to sponsor the band’s return in 2010, 2011 and now 2013.

The DAV Flight Team had a great time at the Thunder in the Valley Show in Columbus, GA.   The show drew in approximately 20,000 people.   We enjoyed interacting with the locals and local veterans about the benefits of the DAV and Panchito.

DAV Participates in Historic First and Last Flight at AirVenture 2012

The DAV Flight Team and the Commemorative Air Force co-sponsored the historic “First and Last Flight” at EAA AirVenture 2012. Commemorating the first and last bombing attacks of Japan during World War II, DAV and CAF joined forces to recognize the historic Doolittle Raid and the bombing over Hiroshima.

Representing the Doolittle Raid, B-25, “Panchito”, hosted Doolittle Raider, Lt. Col Richard “Dick” Cole on the flight. Flying alongside the B-25 and representing the bombing over Hiroshima, the world’s only flying B-29, “FiFi”, hosted Enola Gay navigator, Capt. Theodore “Dutch” Van Kirk. Guest riders on the flights were members of the EAA Young Eagles.

2012 marked the 70th Anniversary of the Doolittle Raid where sixteen B-25 bombers launched off an aircraft carrier on a daring bombing mission over Tokyo, Japan. In it's modern-day mission with Disabled American Veterans, the B-25 travels to airshows throughout the country reminding people of the sacrifices veterans make for freedom. As brave men and women return from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan, the DAV’s services and advocacy are as relevant today as at any time in the nation’s history.
